Contrast Therapy, Ice Bath & Sauna in Bangkok

Hot mineral onsen, an ice bath, and a Himalayan salt-wall sauna or steam room — fully private, in one room, at your own pace.

Contrast therapy means alternating between hot water immersion and cold exposure in the same session. At Zenva, that's built into both of our private rooms: a hot mineral-salt onsen bath paired with a separate ice bath, plus a Himalayan salt-wall sauna in the Bonsai room or a steam room in the Sakura room.

How a Session Works

There's no fixed protocol, but a simple, beginner-friendly rhythm is to warm up in the hot onsen for 8–12 minutes, move to the ice bath for 30–90 seconds, return to the hot onsen for another 8–10 minutes, and repeat 2–3 times — finishing on warm to relax, or on cold for the alerting effect. Because the room is entirely private for your booking, there's no shared schedule to work around and no one waiting on the plunge pool.

Commonly Reported Benefits

We keep this section deliberately measured: contrast therapy is a well-established wellness practice, not a medical treatment, and individual results vary. For the fuller explanation — including a step-by-step first-timer's guide — see our Journal article on contrast therapy.

Contrast therapy is not recommended for everyone. If you have a cardiovascular condition, are pregnant, or have a history of severe migraines, speak with a doctor before trying hot-cold immersion, and mention it to our front desk when you book so we can advise on room and duration.

Pairing It With Spa Treatments

A hot-cold cycle leaves muscles warm and receptive to bodywork, which is why our couple and solo packages finish an onsen session with an aromatherapy or Thai massage rather than treating the two as separate visits. See the full Private Onsen Rooms & Packages, or the standalone Massage & Spa Treatments menu.

This page is educational and general in nature and is not medical advice. If you have a pre-existing health condition, consult a physician before beginning any hot-cold contrast practice.
